Would You Feed Your Kids Cancer?

Do you know about the cancer causing ingredients hidden in your food?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news (again). But if your health – as well as that of your family’s – matters to you, then this will be the most important thing you read today.

In fact, if you live here in America, prepare to be shocked and appalled because what you’re about to learn is truly disturbing.

As it turns out, food companies in the US are out to get us. Yes, that’s a bold statement, but hear me out. Apparently, these conglomerates don’t place the same value on our health as that of other nations. The sad part is that we (i.e. our government) lets them.

Case in point, the largest food manufacturers – companies from which you buy things from to feed yourself and your family – actually have two versions of their products. One is largely free of harmful chemicals. The other is laced with questionable – even outright cancerous additives.

Natural food blogger Lisa Leake (AKA Food Babe) recently made this discovery while further investigating Kraft Macaroni and Choice. Unfortunately, this product – which is largely aimed at children – contains artificial food dyes known as Yellow 5 and Yellow 6.

What’s the big deal you ask?

How about the potential to cause cancer? How’s that for a big deal? And while we can’t say for certain that these substances are indeed cancerous, the link still exists.

To make matter worse, these additives have been banned from the UK version of the product due to consumer outcry and replaced with harmless counterparts. But they’re still being used here in the good ole USA. It’s no wonder we have the highest rates of disease in the world.

Now, to be fair it’s not just Kraft Mac and Cheese. Several other companies sell healthier versions of their foods elsewhere… while saving the shit for us (pardon my French). Why would they do this? My best guess is that it adds more to their bottom line. But at the end of the day, the reason doesn’t matter. It needs to STOP!

I urge you to head over to Lisa’s site and learn more about this. She’s actually started a petition on Change.org asking Kraft to change their policies.

With that said, maybe you’ll sign the petition and join the other 18,000 or so people who are making their voice heard. On the other hand, maybe you won’t. The choice is ultimately yours.

But here’s something you SHOULD do regardless:

  1. Stay away from processed food. As a general rule of thumb, if it comes in a package or a box, there’s probably something in there that won’t sit well with your body. And yes, packaged foods are convenient. But that convenience comes at a price that extends far beyond money.
  2. If you MUST buy processed or packaged food – read all of the ingredients carefully. If you find anything “suspicious” put the box down and walk away. There is no reason you can’t make a healthier alternative yourself – at home – with a little ingenuity and a few Google searches.

And as far as the latter point is concerned…

It helps to actually know what’s good and what’s not. As such, basic education is critical on this front. You should strive to stay updated on the latest concerning health and nutrition.

Drop by this site once in a while (as well as “fan-ing” our Facebook page :-)). And visit the many other sites that promote a similar, natural health and whole foods message. Because at the end of the day, nobody is more responsible for your well being than you. So take action!
